Self drive boats are one of the most fun and adventurous activities to do in Amsterdam, which is why we need your help! Do you love welcoming people and making sure they head out fully prepared on a self-sail sloop through the Amsterdam canals? Then, our Dock Worker vacancy might be just the job you’re looking for. Your day looks like this: you start by getting the boats prepped and ready on the dock, the guests start arriving and it’s your job to welcome them, show them how the boat works, and run them through the most important rules and safety instructions on the water. Once they push off, give them a smile and a wave, they’re the captains of the boat now. That’s what you’ll do and you’ll make it look easy. Hard work, fresh air, and a whole lot of fun with the most enthusiastic team on the water. That’s what we promise you.

Where will you be working?

We operate from multiple locations across Amsterdam and we are growing fast. Our fleet includes electric self-drive sloops for independent exploring, larger sloops and saloon boats for private tours with a skipper, and canal cruise boats for group departures, all spread across our two companies: Eco Boats Amsterdam and Canal Motorboats. When you join us, you work for both, meaning no two days will ever be the same.

Fun facts: Eco Boats Amsterdam is the city’s premier eco-friendly boat company, and our sister company Canal Motorboats has been sailing Amsterdam’s canals since 1996 making it the longest-established boat rental company in the city.

What will you be doing?

• Preparing and organising the boats on the dock before each trip
• Welcoming guests at the dock and create a warm, friendly atmosphere
• Explain to our guests how the self-drive boats work
• Communicating the canals’ rules and important safety procedures on the water
• Keeping the boats on the dock tidy and orderly throughout the day
• Help to ensure smooth, efficient on-site operations
• Working during exciting city-wide events such as the Amsterdam Light Festival, Gay Pride, King’s Day, and more

Who are you?

• 18 years or older
• You are open, sociable, and naturally at ease with guests
• Independent and responsible
• Available to work at least 2 to 3 days a week, including at least 1 weekend day
• Available in the evenings, during the high tourist season, and on public holidays
• No 9-to-5 mentality needed here! You thrive in an ever-changing, outdoor setting
• Good command of English
• Any additional languages are a welcome bonus
• Experience in hospitality is certainly a plus
